Information in regards to the WaterHotel at Dämman Lighthouse

Please find enclosed (requested) information in regards to "The WaterHotel at Dämman Lighthouse". "The Queen of the Baltic", as she has been dubbed, is a very unpredictable and exciting Lady, both when it comes to her temperament (the weather and the four winds), but also when it comes to her outer and inner beauty: during the years that have passed, close to small wonders have been performed on the long road back from almost complete deterioration, destruction, and tearing-down/"death"-status (picture 1&2 ), to what today is standing long, tall and strong in the KalmarSound's deep waters - according to many one of the Northern Europe's most beautiful and most interesting creations! This is how the name "The Queen of the Baltic" was conceived! (picture 3&4).

The WaterHotel has increased its capacity with five new double rooms (picture 5), a much needed complement to the original 8 rooms, including the now "famous" "Wedding Suite" (picture 6), which means that she today has 13 rooms, which is perfect for housing 22 people in "Conference-arrangement" and up to 28 people in "family-arrangement", as some of the beds are Queen size single beds. The Restaurant's (pictures 7&8) seating remains unchanged at 48, but we have actually had wedding arrangements where over 60 guests have been seated.

The work on the piers (picture 9), under construction for almost eight years by now, has been finalized (only minor "touch-up" jobs remain!), with an addition of a very secluded and special pier, towards the East, which will be a Non-denominated Chapel (picture 10) for marriages, christenings and similar activities, but which will also serve as an outdoor sanctuary for contemplation and relaxation, accompanied by all the beautiful ships, that so majestically sail by in KalmarSound (picture 11). We have also created two additional serving places on the piers (pictures12&23), where you can enjoy something good to drink and something small to eat, while you are enjoying the sun, the breeze from the Ocean and cultivate your creative thoughts, ideas and plans, maybe together with a loved one or a business partner - or all alone!!. One is outside the Restaurant towards "the South", and one all the way out on the outer South-pier (picture 12). Only a few steps away from wherever you are at Dämman, there is a stainless steel ladder mounted for easy access to - or getting out of - the fresh sea water for a swim in the Lagoon or even around the whole Dämman-island (approx. 600 meters, following the periphery!).

We will launch our new Pontoon Sauna Boat (picture 13 is under construction) - "Misty Sauna" (her name was "Mister Harbor" when she was used as a regular boat!) in the Spring. She can take up to twelve people and is completely "self-propelled" and equipped with a separate floating jetty (as a "trailer"), sunbathing and swim dolly, a well stocked bar, refrigerator, gas-grill, stereo/CD-unit, TV/DVD and of course a sauna unit, heated by wood/logs, and with its own outboard motor with 40 horse powers. There one can - at decent weather - glide around in KalmarSound for a morning sauna and a dip in the clear crisp Baltic sea water - or, while one at the same time is enjoying something good to drink or to eat, discuss with colleagues and/or friends, or take a longer tour around the "Blue Mermaid", only 11 nautical miles north of Dämman. When the weather is less good, there is both a Sauna (picture 14) all in granite and a Jacuzzi (picture 15) all in granite and white Italian marble in the basement, where also the "Gambling Room" (picture16) is located, where private parties can play Roulette, Black Jack or a One-armed bandit.

The construction work with the Heliport on top of the new creation, "Atlantis", (picture 17&18), the new Hotel-wing, with five double rooms, a very well stocked and generously filled Wine cellar, and two rooms for the Lighthouse Keeper couple and family, when they are visiting the island, has started and is expected to be finished in the fall of 2003. Atlantis will also house the Spa area/equipment, with different forms of massage and exercise equipment, as well as other forms of treatment for the body, soul and mind. Adjacent, towards the east and towards the lagoon, there will be the new "WaterBar", with direct access to the new Natural Pool, with cleaned seawater, which is heated up to 80° F/ 25° C, with the excess energy from the new generator, which will be installed spring of 2003.

We work exclusively with pre-bookings to be able to give our guests the service they deserve and pay for. We therefore need to have your booking a least a couple of days before arrival - and if the groups are bigger we may need a week or so to have time to make the arrangement perfect for you and according to your wishes and requests. This also means that the Menu has to be pre-booked. Please ask for a menu suggestion - we can offer everything from a 3-course lunch or dinner menu to a 7-course Gourmet dinner (picture 19), of course with as many different types of matching wines. After the dinner one can enjoy a glass of Armagnac from the year 1900 (picture 20), or one of our more 200 different types and qualities of Whiskey and Whisky.

We normally need a minimum number of 12 people for each dinner occasion, but the chance is great that we can combine smaller parties with other visiting parties, as the number of visiting parties is large, in fact very often it is difficult to get a table! As before one can book dinners and stay-overs, or lunch alternatively dinner with return to the mainland the same day/same evening. Either ones comes in one's own boat, or - which is by far the most common - we arrange the boat trip. The boat, which takes 24 passengers is called "Västerskär of Svartö" (picture 23, see also picture 12), normally departing from Svartö, which is north of Mönsterås, approximately 40 kilometers north of Kalmar, which is easily reached by car, bus, air or train. The boat-trip takes approx. 20 minutes. If one wishes to depart from Sandvik on Öland, Oskarshamn or Kalmar or another harbor, this is perfectly alright. The boat trip will, of course, then take a little bit longer and a small cost-price correction for this service will be charged.
Special arrangements are really our strength: A yearly meeting for a "Boys' Club", which was formed by some graduates of a some University somewhere one or several decades ago, where now the individual members are in various leading positions in (International) companies all over the world (picture 24) and who always meet appropriately dressed up! A Wedding, with the actual Wedding act, the dinner and/or the reception and the Wedding-night in the Lanternin (picture 25) or a famous person, who does not like to be pictured at all (picture 26), or why not celebrate a special Birthday/ Wedding-day/Anniversary or other special day at Dämman? Tailor-make your own arrangement at "The WaterHotel at Dämman Lighthouse". We have great experience of such arrangements, whether it is a triathlon with different activities like trap/skeet-shooting (picture 27), Jet-ski racing on a set track (picture 28), eel-picking from cage-to-cage (picture 29) remote controlled model-boats, also on a set track in the harbor, or swim one lap around Dämman in free style (picture 30), or some other exciting arrangements of your choice.

We enclose some information, our very informative "Building Calendar 1999" and a very good magazine article in the May 2001 issue of BåtNytt, which unfortunately is only available in Swedish. (For those of you who get this letter per e-mail, all this printed material will be sent out to you the same day as the e-mail goes out). Even if this article is fairly new, a lot of things have happened since then: the piers have been finished, the TowerBar and five new separate double rooms have been built; a service unit has seen daylight and thousands of small details and fine adjustments have been made in actual lighthouse building. Neither time nor the development stand ever still at Dämman - like cells in our bodies we constantly renew ourselves, and "The Queen of Dämman" is becoming healthier and healthier every day, while she at the same time she is becoming more and more alive and "real"! (Our main business is after all a world-wide business in the "Anti-Aging"-business, including products to keep you healthy, alert and sound body-, mind- and spirit-wise, so we have a lot to live up to!)

It will take a while before it is complete, even if we will make additions continuously also in the future, and an eagle's-eye picture capturing every moment of "The Life at Dämman" through a number of well placed web-cameras, will be available through "the Net" shortly.
